Volunteer "Life's most persistent and urgent questions is: 'What are Featured Volunteer: Mike Chadwick
Mike started volunteering at the PACE Center in Rutland this summer (2011). On Tuesdays and Fridays he leads a spiritual group, and has also built a horse racing game with participants. According to Center Manager Kristen Carpentier, “They assembled the track, horses etc. The next part was holding actual races - its a dice game, with a lot of loud talking- laughter, its just a scene when Mike comes and does this. He even does it in the voice that announcers use... its horse number 4 coming from behind, etc. I cant even describe the energy in the building. It’s great.” Mike worked as a lineman for a power company for over 30 years, then became a chaplain assistant at Fletcher Allen Hospital. After that, Mike was a driver for Marble Valley Transit. When he retired, he wanted to keep the connection with the people he had been driving. “I love these people. You have to love them. It’s a job where if you don’t appreciate the people you shouldn’t be in it. I like helping people, I like being with these people, and I believe in PACE. I like what they do.” “Mike is just an amazing volunteer. I wish every non-profit had someone like him,” says Carpentier. Thank you, Mike!
