SPRING 2010

Recent Happenings at the Colchester Center :

On Valentine’s Day, a visit from a Barbershop Quartet, a formal luncheon, and a “Sweets For The Sweet” party made our day special.

Kenneth Russell, PACE’s very own Occupational Therapist, ran a program on the process of making maple syrup.  Kenneth brought in fresh syrup from his family farm for tasting, explained the process for making syrup, and answered all of our questions.  Thanks Kenneth!

News and Updates from Colchester:

The PACErs walking club is well on its way to Louisiana .  Individuals have already walked an equivalent of 400 miles, only 230 more to go until we reach our destination!

We have started two new groups that meet weekly: the Men’s Club and the Ladies Tea Group.  The men enjoy playing blackjack and discussing the latest “news”, and the ladies enjoy sharing stories from their past over a hot cup of tea.

The computer area is thriving, with participants using it daily for communications with families, research, and games.

Looking ahead:

Spring will be filled with celebrations and fun!  A Spring Fling, the first plantings of the Green Thumbs (our Garden Club), the opening of the deck for the season, and picnics are all in store!

News and Updates from the Rutland Center :

Edward Raymond turned 100 years old on January 29!  His family came to the Center and we had a birthday cake and gifts from fellow PACE participants and staff. The Rutland Herald also came and took pictures for the paper!

Barbara Burns continues to come to the Center each month to play piano.  She inspires participants and staff to dance with her music.  We look forward to each visit.  Thanks, Barbara!

Looking ahead:

We planted some spring flowers -  marigolds, pansies, and zinnia’s.  Staff and participants enjoy caring for the seedlings by making sure they are watered daily.  We will be painting clay pots soon, and will transplant the flowers when they are ready.

We are starting a wellness group with participants that expressed an interest in getting healthier. The new program kicks off April 2.  Our nutritionist, Pat Harrison, will lead a talk about nutrition, and healthy eating.  She will get the group started with a chart to mark our progress with exercise and weight loss.  The program also has involvement from our Physical Therapist Jeannie Cushman, and Activities Director Barbara VanGuilder.

Next month is pretzel month, and our baking group will be making soft pretzels.  We will also celebrate Soda Fountain Day on April 29 by making soda fountain floats.
